Another image from Yasuni National park - Ecuador. Cobalt-winged Parakeets, Scarlet-shouldered Parotlets and Orange-cheeked Parrots are eating mineral clay to help them digest their poisonous diet of nuts and seeds. Another miracle of this, the worlds richest, biodiversity hotspot - now seriously threatened by the oil industri. Most of the Ecuadorian Amazon is under drilling and the state has licensed Chinese prospectors to have a go in the park - the last pristine area. A catastrophe !!

Out of the Amazonas - the amazing Yasuni National Park in Ecuador. The Common Blunthead ( or egg-eating snake) is thin like a pencil and looong and eats eggs of reptiles and small birds. On the night walks my guides and I encountered a myriad of the most astonishing creatures. Some insects and invertebrates looked from outer space. The Yasuni is one this planets greatest hotspots of biodiversity. I photographed giant otters, macaws, snakes, monkeys of many kinds, scorpions, a myriad of birds, caimans and the deep of the forest. After it was straight to the Andean cloud forests - but that is another story.

Saying goodbye to Galapagos with this image from the other day at Fernandina of a young Galapagos Hawk (galapagosvråk). One of the worlds rarest raptors. Galapagos is indeed one of the most unique places of this planet. Evolution is visible and the animals have no fear of humans. Now Im off for the Ecuadorian part of Amazonas. Stay tuned !

Chasing the last light on North Seymour - Galapagos. Magnificent Frigate bird (praktfregatfågel) - flying like a ghost, or rather like the pirate it is. I wanted this spooky light for this flamboyant bird. Galapagos is now to an end and we are heading back to Quito and Im continuing down in the Amazon tomorrow.
