Hokkaido at winter is a frozen and snowy world - especially in the north of the island.

Vulcanic heated streams are creating  small open waters for swans and ducks. Cranes are dancing and roosting in a winter landscape and at the Ochotsk Sea the pack ice holds hundreds of eagles. The mighty and threatened Steller´s Sea Eagle is wintering here and is a Japanese national treasure.
