For many years I have been photographing hummingbirds in Ecuador, Costa Rica and Panama.

It is difficult photography if you dont want the images to look like being shot in a studio: razorsharp, frozen movements and full lights. These images are are mostly done with setups, mutiple flashes, artificial background, flowers the hummingbirds are not even frequenting and sensors.

I prefer shooting in natural light with just a weak, off the camera, flash to  freeze the eye or other details.

The hummingbirds are the best flyers in the avian world. They can rotate, fly backwards, hover and even fly on the back. 80 wing beats per second is not unusually ----So why "freeze" them ?
