Lion-day today

It is the LION-day today. Time is running out for the once so abundant populations of lions in Africa. The total numbers are estimated to be only 35 000 and they are in extremely danger due to diminishing wilderness and the craving for tiger-bone in traditional Asian (mainly Chinese) medicine. Lion-bone is now substituting tiger-bone. Great article in National Geographic august 2013!
This male is "Tyson" (after the boxer) a huge male from Kruger NP. He was trying with 2 other males to conquer a territory with females and got an infection in the eye after many severe bites from the fights. Note the one in the scull !
